چکیده

Abstract: We present an instrumentation devoted to the mapping of indoor ambient conditions by an infrared camera. In addition to a measurement grid composed of several spherical sensors, an infrared camera is used to visualize and quantify the spatial distribution of the air temperature, the air speed, and the mean radiant temperature. A suitable procedure is developed so that from its temperature history recorded by the infrared camera, each sensor can measure, after solving an inverse heat transfer problem, all the three cited parameters. As the sensors are all imaged at the same time by the camera, an interpolation is done with the values they provide; the 2D distribution of each parameter is then obtained. By using a pair of stereoscopic cameras, it is possible to determine the 3D coordinates of each sensor of the measurement grid; consequently, the 3D mapping of the indoor ambient conditions is possible. Two steps are followed and allow us to achieve our goal: the validation of the performance of the sensor in terms of accuracy and reliability, and the validation of the complete experimental procedure which relies on digital image processing and on inverse heat transfer.

Analysis of the Thermomechanical Behavior of Coarse-grained Polycrystalline Aluminum under Tensile Conditions

The aim of this paper is to present the advantages of using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and Infrared Thermography (IRT) to investigate the thermomechanical behavior of aluminum at the scale of its microstructure. The study combines these complementary imaging techniques: Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) to characterise the microstructure of the sample, DIC to obtain strain fields and...

Automatic Indoor Environmental Conditions Monitoring by IR Thermography

This paper presents a new approach to monitor an indoor environment on thermodynamic basis. It uses temperature as the driving parameter and is especially suited for comfort analysis or evaluation of moisture. The method is based on infrared (IR) thermography, which proved to be very effective in this application. The system measures all fundamental environment parameters (e.g., air temperature...

Mapping Soil Surface Macropores Using Infrared Thermography: An Exploratory Laboratory Study

Macropores and water flow in soils and substrates are complex and are related to topics like preferential flow, nonequilibrium flow, and dual-continuum. Hence, the quantification of the number of macropores and the determination of their geometry are expected to provide a better understanding on the effects of pores on the soil's physical and hydraulic properties. This exploratory study aimed a...
